To create ODBC DSNs for use with FrameFlow's ODBC event monitor you need to use the 32-bit ODBC tool if you are running on a 64-bit version of Windows. This article provides instructions on locating the 'odbcad32' utility and using it to create a DSN.
ODBC on 64-Bit Version of Windows
On 64-bit versions of Windows the ODBC utility in the Adminstrative Tools is only able to create 64-bit
ODBC data source names (DSNs). FrameFlow's ODBC event monitor requires 32-bit DSNs. To create 32-bit
DSNs you need to locate the appropriate utility.
Launching the 32-Bit ODBC Administration Tool
- If the ODBC admin tool is already open, close it
- Press Win + R to open the Run dialog
- Select the "System DSN" tab.
- Use the "Add" button to add a new DSN that points to your database
FrameFlow ODBC Event Monitor Configuration
In your ODBC event monitor enter the DSN name that you used above and, optionally, specify the SQL queries that you want to execute.
The ODBC event monitor is a great solution for monitoring all kinds of databases since almost all databases include ODBC support.
For SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL, FrameFlow offers dedicated event monitors and we recommend using them instead as they offer
additional options and database compatibility.
