Article: How to Move your FrameFlow Installation to a Different Machine

This article explains how to move your FrameFlow installation to a different machine.

These instructions assume that your licensed FrameFlow installation was installed in the default location of “C:\Program Files (x86)\FrameFlow” and that file sharing on the new machine is enabled. Also it assumes that you have already downloaded the licensed version of the FrameFlow setup and your FrameFlow license file.

1. Install FrameFlow on a Different Machine

Using the FrameFlow licensed setup, install FrameFlow. After the setup is complete the FrameFlow start up wizard will run. You can skip the start up wizard by clicking on the X in the top right corner.

2. Stop the FrameFlow Service on the Original Machine

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog
  2. In the “Open:” drop down, type: services.msc
  3. Press Enter or click OK to open the services window
  4. Right click on the “FrameFlow Service” service and choose “Stop”
  5. Right click again on the “FrameFlow Service” service and choose “Properties”
  6. Change the “Startup type:” to “Manual” and click OK

3. Stop the FrameFlow Service on the New Machine

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog
  2. In the “Open:” drop down, type: services.msc
  3. Press Enter or click OK to open the services window
  4. Right click on the “FrameFlow Service” service and choose “Stop”

4. Migrate the Data from the Original Installation

  1. Press Win + E to open Windows Explorer
  2. Navigate to “C:\Program Files (x86)\FrameFlow”
  3. Right click on the “Sites” subfolder and choose copy
  4. Navigate to “\DifferentMachinec$Program Files (x86)FrameFlow”
  5. Right click on the “Sites” subfolder and choose rename. Rename it to “SitesOld”
  6. Press Ctrl + V to copy the “Sites” folder from the original installation

5. Migrate Settings and Preferences

  1. Press Win + E to open Windows Explorer
  2. Navigate to “C:\Program Files (x86)\FrameFlow”
  3. Right click on “config.ini” and choose copy.
  4. Navigate to “\DifferentMachinec$Program Files (x86)FrameFlow”
  5. Right click on “config.ini” and choose rename. Rename it to “config.ini.old”
  6. Press Ctrl + V to copy the “config.ini” file from the original installation

6. [Optional] Copy Scripts used by the “Run a script” Notification Action

  1. Press Win + E to open Windows Explorer
  2. Navigate to “C:\Program Files (x86)\FrameFlow”
  3. Right click on the “Scripts” subfolder and choose “Copy”
  4. Navigate to “\DifferentMachinec$Program Files (x86)FrameFlow”
  5. Press Ctrl + V to copy the “Scripts” folder from the original installation. Choose yes if you are prompted to merge the folders.

7. [Optional] Copy Sounds used by the “Play a sound” Notification Action

  1. Press Win + E to open Windows Explorer
  2. Navigate to “C:\Program Files (x86)\FrameFlow”
  3. Right click on the “Sounds” subfolder and choose “Copy”
  4. Navigate to “\DifferentMachinec$Program Files (x86)FrameFlow”
  5. Press Ctrl + V to copy the “Sounds” folder from the original installation. Choose yes if you are prompted to merge the folders.

8. [Optional] Copy Custom SNMP MIBs

  1. Press Win + E to open Windows Explorer
  2. Navigate to “C:\Program Files (x86)\FrameFlow”
  3. Right click on the “MIBs” subfolder and choose “Copy”
  4. Navigate to “\DifferentMachinec$Program Files (x86)FrameFlow”
  5. Press Ctrl + V to copy the “MIBs” folder from the original installation. Choose yes if you are prompted to merge the folders.

9. [Optional] Copy Custom Templates

  1. Press Win + E to open Windows Explorer
  2. Navigate to “C:\Program Files (x86)\FrameFlow”
  3. Right click on the “Templates” subfolder and choose “Copy”
  4. Navigate to “\DifferentMachinec$Program Files (x86)FrameFlow”
  5. Press Ctrl + V to copy the “Templates” folder from the original installation. Choose yes if you are prompted to merge the folders.

10. Start the FrameFlow Service on the New Installation

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog
  2. In the “Open:” drop down, type: services.msc
  3. Press Enter or click OK to open the services window
  4. Right click on the “FrameFlow Service” service and choose “Start”

11. Update Remote Node Configurations (FrameFlow Multi-Site Only)

  1. On each remote node, edit the file “config.ini” in the “C:\Program Files (x86)\FrameFlow MSP” folder.
  2. Edit the “MasterNode” value to point to the new installation.

12. Finished

You can now uninstall the original FrameFlow installation.
