Bandwidth Event Monitor

Uses Windows-specific protocols to monitor the bandwidth used by servers and workstations.

Overview

Takes two traffic samples from a remote machine and then calculates the bandwidth used for the period between the samples. Can detect incoming, outgoing, and total bandwidth and offers options to alert if any exceed specified values.

  • Detecting systems that are using excessive bandwidth

Monitoring Options

This event monitor provides the following options:

Alert With [Info/Warning/Error/Critical] if the Device Cannot Be Contacted

Use this option to get alerts if FrameFlow could not contact the selected device.

Alert if the incoming bandwidth on any interface exceeds a certain rate

Use this option to get alerts when incoming bandwidth exceeds the thresholds that you specify.

Alert if the outgoing bandwidth on any interface exceeds a certain rate

Use this option to receive alerts when outgoing bandwidth exceeds the thresholds that you specify.

Alert if the total bandwidth on any interface exceeds a certain rate

Use this option to be alerted if the total bandwidth on any interface exceeds the rate you specify.

Use WMI to retrieve the bandwidth data

Use this option to retrieve bandwidth data with WMI.

By default, the event monitor uses PDH to retrieve bandwidth data.

Interfaces to Ignore

Use this option to choose specific interfaces to ignore.

Separate different values using commas.

Authentication and Security

PDH: The account used for authentication must be a member of the Performance Monitor Users group or have admin rights.

WMI: The account used for authentication must be a member of the Performance Monitor Users group and the Distributed COM Users group, or have admin rights.

Data Points

This event monitor generates the following data points:

Data Point Description
Incoming Bandwidth Rate The incoming bandwidth for a network device.
Outgoing Bandwidth Rate The outgoing bandwidth for a network device.
Total Bandwidth Rate The combined total bandwidth for a network device.
