Disk I/O Event Monitor

Monitors the disk input and output on servers, workstations.

Overview

The Disk I/O Event Monitor checks physical disk I/O performance counters and alerts if the retrieved values exceed specified thresholds.

Monitoring Options

This event monitor provides the following options:

Alert With [Info/Warning/Error/Critical] if the Device Cannot Be Contacted

Use this option to get alerts if FrameFlow could not contact the selected device.

Alert if the disk busy time is greater than a specified percentage

Use this option to receive alerts if the disk busy time is greater than the percentages you specify.

Alert if the disk idle time is greater than a specified percentage

Use this option to be alerted if the disk idle time exceeds the percentages you specify.

Alert if the disk idle time is greater than a specified percentage

Use this option to receive alerts if the disk idle time exceeds the percentages you specify.

Alert if the total disk activity bytes per second is greater than a specified value

Use this option to be alerted if the total disk activity bytes per second exceeds the values you specify.

Alert if the disk read bytes per second is greater than a specified value

Use this option to receive alerts if the disk read bytes per second exceeds the values you input.

Alert if the disk write bytes per second is greater than a specified value

Use this option to get alerted if the disk write bytes per second exceed the values you specify.

Alert if the current disk queue length is greater than a specified value

Use this option to receive alerts when the disk queue becomes longer than a value that you specify.

Alert if the current disk read queue length is greater than a specified value

Use this option to receive alerts when the disk read queue length exceeds the length you specify.

Alert if the current disk write queue length is greater than a specified value

Use this option to get alerted when the disk write queue length exceeds the length you specify.

Authentication and Security

The account used for authentication must be a member of the Performance Monitor Users group or have admin rights.

Data Points

This event monitor generates the following data points:

Data Point Description
% Disk Busy The percentage of the disk that's busy at the time of the event monitor run.
% Disk Total Bytes/Sec The total number of bytes/second for the disk.
% Current Disk Queue Length The length of the disk's queue at the time of the event monitor run.
% Disk Idle The percentage of the disk that's idle at the time of the event monitor run.
Avg. Disk Read Queue Length The average length of the disk read queue.
Avg. Disk Write Queue Length The average length of the disk write queue.
Disk Read Bytes/Sec The rate at which bytes are transferred from the disk during read operations.
Disk Write Bytes/Sec The rate at which bytes are transferred from the disk during write operations.
